Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine. It is the largest and the most important city of Ukraine. Kyiv is one of the oldest cities in Europe. It is more then 1500 years old.
It is situated on the both banks of the river Dnipro.
Kyiv is the greatest cultural centre. There are many museums in
Kyiv: the Natural History Museum, the Historical Museum, the Museum
of National Art, the Museum of Russian Art, the Museum of Western and
Eastern Art, the Museum of Theatre, Music and Cinema Art, Kyiv-Cave
Historical Cultural Preserve, St. Sophia Museum, the Shevchenko Museum,
the Museum of Sport Fame, the Memorial Complex of the Great Patriotic
War and others.
There are many theatres in Kyiv: the National Opera, Ukrainian Drama Theater, Russian Drama Theatre, Operetta Theatre, House of Organ and Chamber Music, Puppet Theatre, Theatre of Drama and Comedy, etc.
The Studio of Chronically and Documentary Films, the Studio of Popular Science Films and Dovzhenko Artistic Film Studio are located in Kyiv.
There are many monuments in Kyiv: to T. Shevchenko, to L. Ukrainka, to O. Dovzhenko, to I. Franko, to O. Pushkin, to M. Lysenko,
to M. Rylsky, to H. Skovoroda, to R. Khmelnytsky, to St. Volodymyr.
Kyiv is the academic centre of Ukraine. There are many schools,
colleges, technical schools, lyceums, gymnasiums, professional schools, universities among them National University, Polytechnic University, Food Industry Technological University, Light Industry Technological University, Pedagogical University, Medical University in Kyiv. There are many research
institutes there.
There are many libraries in Kyiv: the National Scientific Library,
the National Parliamentary Library, the Medical Library, the Agricultural
Library, many libraries for children, youth and adults.
Fifteen centuries passed over its ancient hills. The city is green and beautiful.
Many streets are lined up with chestnut trees. The green lawns, squares, public gardens are bright with red tulips. But whether it is all in blossom or covered with snow, Kyiv in always lovely. We are proud of our capital.
