The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated in north-western Europe, on the Britain iles. The two main ilands Great Britain and Ireland. Great Britain consists of four parts: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The country is washed by the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea and the Irish Sea.
The surface of England and Northern Ireland is flat, but the surface of Scotland
and Wales is mountainous. The higest mountain in Great Britain is Ben Nevis. The longest river is the Severn. The capita of Great Britain is London, stands on the river Thams, which is not so long as the Severn.
Great Britain is a parlimantary monarchy. It means that there is a Queen (or a King) and the Parliament. The Queen is only a formal ruler. Her power is limited by the Parliament. The parliament is the most important authority in Britain.
Lows are made by the parliament. The British Parlament consists of two chambers: the House of lords and the House of Commons. The government is headed by the Prime Minister, who is the leader of the Party that has won the election.
There are a lot of places of interest in Great Britain such as Stonehenge, Hardian Wall, Durham Castle and York Cathedrel. In London you can see Westminster Abbey, Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, St. Paul`s Cathedral, the London Bridge, the Tower of London, a famous Clock Tower Big Ben, the symbol of London. The National At Gallery has a fine collection of European paintings. Trafalgar Square, Hyde Park and British Museum are also situated in London. There are many large cities in Great Britain. They are : Oxford, Cambridge, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristal, Edinburgh, Coventry, Sheffield, Glasgow, Manchester.
William Shakespeare – one of the greatest English writers. He was born in Stratfort-on-Avon in 1564. The tragedies «Othello», «Romeo and Juliet», «Hamlet» are well-knoun around the world.
